Totally comfortable and impossibly chic at the same time? It must be a fantasy.
Nope. This one’s reality.
As people are largely becoming more health-conscious and workout-savvy, fitness is transforming into a lifestyle rather than a hobby (or a chore). Now, we want comfortable, stylish clothing that will take us straight from the gym, to brunch, to shopping with friends and running errands.
That’s where athleisure comes in.
This has been one of the most loved trends around for a few years now, with Lululemon and Nike holding stake as the biggest players in the athleisure game. And now that even Beyonce is getting in on the trend with Ivy Park (launching April 14th in case you missed all the Instagrams), you know it’s a legit trend that’s here to stay.
Not to mention, It-Girls are totally into the athleisure trend. Everyone from Kendall and Gigi, to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Nicole Richie are pairing their workout gear with designer accessories and six packs (we’ll work on that one later). And instead of caking on makeup after a sweat session, they simply throw on their most oversized shades and head out the gym doors to start the rest of their day.
It’s all about easy style. And these girls scream effortless chic.
GET THE LOOK
As with any trend, there are a ton of different ways to interpret athleisure to fit seamlessly with your own personal style, whether it’s simple, edgy, bold — however you choose to describe it.
The basic formula for nailing the trend is easy. Always keep the pieces neutral, as athleisure is all about chic, comfortable simplicity. Top it off with a cool jacket, a leather bag big enough for your water bottle, and sneakers with an unexpected twist.
At Giftbar, we love local. So instead of showing you the big-brand activewear you’ve seen a million times, we’re taking our inspiration from Sweat NSK — LA’s very own luxury athleisure boutique.
1. THE CHICEST LINK
This is our idea of the perfect yoga look. The sheer white tank will keep you cool, while leather-look leggings add interest to a simple look. A denim jacket keeps the look casual and can easily be tied around your waist on warmer days, while white sneakers are easy to slip on and off before class (they’re also a French girl staple). This look is activewear-camouflaged-as-streetwear at its best.
2. GO FOR THE BOLD
Activewear is inherently sporty (obviously), so why not embrace the athleticism it was built upon? Bombers are huge at the moment and add a sporty flair to any outfit. And cut out sneakers? We never would have thought of the idea, but obviously we love it. Finish the look with a pop of color in the form of a blue leather tote that picks up on the subtle honeycomb print of the legging.

3. EDGE OUT THE COMPETITION
We love a pop of snakeskin. It always adds a touch of luxe to even the simplest ensembles. To keep the luxurious vibe of the look, top it with a biker jacket worn over your shoulders (the fashion girls’ secret to instant sophistication) and carry a chic, backpack-esque bag. Lastly, add some whimsy to the look with a soft graphic tee, and finish with easy colorblocked sneakers to ground the expensive look. Athleisure is meant to be functional, after all.
