Coachella: Festival Fashion 2016 Trend Roundup

Floral crowns, be gone.

This year at Coachella, it was all about the double bun.

Didn’t hear about the trend? You might be the only one. In short: Kendall Jenner snapchatted her double buns last week, and the world lost its damn mind.

Unfortunately, you can’t go to music festivals — let alone walk the streets on a normal day — dressed in just buns, hun. So here are a few of our interpretations of 2016 Coachella trends. We made them wearable for everyday, but if you’re not a double-bun, crochet-dress, face-jewel kind of girl, these trendy ensembles can also be worn to upcoming festivals this summer (Lolla, anyone?) without getting into extreme festival fashion territory.

And if you are a double-bun, crochet-dress, face-jewel kind of girl, you can find out how to get the look for yourself over on The Coveteur.

1. THE STATEMENT NECKLACE

Festival fashion has been moving away from hippie-dippy style of music fest yesteryear and toward a more glam-grunge look for a few years now, as made evident by the major bling gleaming in your eyes all over the Coachella grounds for the past two weekends. To temper the overtly luxe look of layered baubles, we paired down the silver choker and bib necklace combo with metallic booties, a classic white top and denim pairing, and a backpack to toss all your cares into for the weekend.

Finishing the look with round, glittery shades = necessary.

Adding a nipple ring = optional.

2. UNEXPECTED DENIM

Denim shorts — that could easily be mistaken for adult diapers — are a given every festival season (see our pick for a cool twist on the summer staple above). But this season, we’re seeing lots of denim in the form of throwback overalls and matching sets with funky applique. Of course, a butterfly printed denim crop top and matching high-waisted shorts aren’t exactly wearable beyond a music festival, so we took the denim look to the streets with an A-line dress, espadrille booties, and a scarf-fedora combo (two festival fashion mainstays). And in keeping with the jean-on-jean trend, we added a grey-tone denim crossbody… Because we can.

3. THE LWD

We know, we know. Neck-to-knee white isn’t exactly what we would call “ideal” for walking around a dusty desert or a muddy field either. But really, nothing compares to a LWD when it comes to effortless boho style. To juxtapose the straight-out-of-the-70s boho vibe of the dress, we added tough accessories in the form of studded leather booties and a bag to match, a wide-brim black hat (complete with a necessary bandanna), and dainty rings meant for intentionally over-the-top stacking. Think: The chic girl’s version of brass knuckles.
